Historique :	Le groupe sculpté, comme le bas-relief du retable, a été commandé à Ferdinando Pelliccia en 1849. L'ensemble n'a été achevé qu'en 1857. Ferdinando Pelliccia (1808-1892) était professeur et directeur de l'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Carrare. Les sculptures de Pelliccia ont été placées dans la chapelle des fonts baptismaux dont le buffet, le pavement et la balustrade sont dus au marbrier bastiais Giuseppe Luciani (d'origine toscane).
